Ina Bottelier's musical palette

Ina Bottelier (1943-2022) was a Dutch guitarist, composer and painter. The choice between visual arts and music was quite a battle: both expressions are very dear to her, until music emerged as the winner.

Her composition style, delicate and elegant, is distinguished by a language accessible to all and evoking intimate and charming atmospheres. Bottelier’s music, inspired and subtle, bridges the gap between tradition and a contemporary way of expressing herself. 

The piece Fête des Oiseaux for flute and guitar is evocative of a celebration among birds, an exaltation of nature. The combination of flute and guitar creates a warm, embracing timbre; the character is playful but also contemplative: while the flute is entrusted with simple melodies, the guitar has a rhythmic pattern that reminds one of the tango. Bottelier calls this composition a short rhapsody, brief and free of formal restrictions that leaves space for interpretation. The improvisational character is represented above all by the two cadenzas dedicated to the solo guitar.

Il suo stile compositivo, delicato e raffinato, si contraddistingue per un linguaggio accessibile e per atmosfere intime. La musica di Bottelier, raffinata e delicata, getta un ponte tra la tradizione musicale e un modo più contemporaneo di esprimersi.

Fête des Oiseaux per Flauto e Chitarra evoca una festa tra uccelli e rappresenta un’esaltazione della natura. 

La combinazione tra i due strumenti crea un timbro caldo e avvolgente; il carattere è giocoso ma anche contemplativo: mentre il flauto suona melodie semplici e lineari la chitarra ha un andamento ritmico che ricorda il tango. Bottelier ha definito questo brano una breve rapsodia, libera da vincoli formali, che lascia spazio all’interpretazione; il carattere improvvisativo è rappresentato soprattutto dalle due cadenze affidate alla chitarra.
